What Nashville Restaurateur Tom Morales Likes Most at His Own Places
Few in town have done more to make Nashville the “It City” than Tom Morales. Starting in the 1990s, years before others would look at downtown and think “Hey, yeah,” Tom was on it, acquiring properties and building his catering and restaurant empire. Today he employs some 500 very cool people (that’s just how he rolls) and constitutes the cutting edge of Nashville’s burgeoning culinary and hospitality sectors. But even a visionary’s gotta eat. So here are Tom’s favorites at some places in town he really likes—his own!
Acme Feed & Seed
The Haitian: fried eggs, seasoned fried pork, black beans, plantains amd sweet habanero slaw
Redneck Lo Mein: lo mein noodles, smoked chicken, collard greens, corn, black-eyed peas, caramelized onions and andouille soy glaze
Woolworth on 5th
Fried chicken with country green beans, whipped potatoes and mac and cheese
Roasted curried cauliflower with hominy, red peppers, pickled shallots and peanuts over braised kale and tomato stew
Rio Grande Pasta: lime-coriander grilled chicken breast, tomatoes, cucumbers, angel hair pasta and chipotle-corn relish (Tom’s Tip: substitute blackened grouper for the chicken!)
Cuban sandwich: smoked pork, ham, Swiss, mayonnaise, mustard, pickles
Fin & Pearl
Fresh catch: The highest quality fish caught by small, privately owned boats devoted to sustainability and expertly prepared by our chefs. It changes almost daily, and it’s always good!
